John Edmond Kelly

Kelly, Mr. John Edmond Traverse City, MI Formerly of Saginaw, MI John E. Kelly passed away on Thursday, January 2, 2014, in Traverse City, MI, at the age of 87 years. The son of the late Cornelius and Isabel (Skinner) Kelly, John was born February 27, 1926, in Saginaw, MI. He served in the U.S. Navy as a SeaBee in the South Pacific and in the occupation of Japan. He married Donna Ruth Hurry on June 18, 1949. She predeceased him on August 31, 2002. He worked as a Trust Officer with Second National Bank and Frankenmuth Bank and Trust prior to his retirement in 1990. John had been a long-time, active member of Zion Lutheran Church in Saginaw, until moving to Traverse City in 2006. He is survived by his son Thomas J. Kelly of Alexandria, VA, daughter Nancy D. Kelly and her son Christopher J. Kelly, of Newaygo, MI, and daughter Janice Kelly Meyer and her husband, J. Thomas Meyer, of Williamsburg, MI, their daughter, Sterling J. Kirk and her husband, LCDR, Gregory C. Kirk, USN, and their children, Hailey, Colton, and Seaona. He is also survived by sisters-in-law, Joanne Hayner and her husband Larry Hayner, and Libby Kelly, and by several nieces, nephews, and their families. He was predeceased by a brother, Donald Kelly, and by a sister, Kathleen Kelly (Slade) Peterson. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 6, 2014 at W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Saginaw, where his family will receive friends from 2:00-6:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Rev. Bonnie Smith will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be under the auspices of American Legion Post #439. A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. January 7, 2014, at the Village at Bay Ridge, East, 3850 Scenic Ridge, Traverse City, MI.
