John G. Hoffmann

Beloved husband, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 1, 2019 at Bavarian Comfort Care. He was 84 years old. John George Hoffmann was born on November 28, 1934 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Roy and Marguerite (Wight) Hoffmann. He married the love of his life, Betty D. Fehrenbach on May 26, 1956 in Bridgeport, Michigan at Faith Lutheran Church; she survives him. John was the owner and operator of Dixie Cut Stone for over 40 years, but not fully retiring as he still had his own office. John then became interested in land developing and developed the area of Rolling Hills Drive, which currently hold many medical facilities. He was a faithful member of Faith Lutheran Church where he served as chairman, the board of elders and singing in the choir. John was a member of the Bridgeport Lions Club, the Downtown Development Board as well as on the Beautification Board. John was voted citizen of the year in 2015. He enjoyed working, traveling with his wife upstate to their cottage as well as nationally and abroad. John will forever be remembered for his hard work ethic, being a lighthearted and cheerful uncle and for always remaining humble. Surviving are his beloved wife of 62 years, Betty D. Hoffmann of Bridgeport; two brothers, David (Mary) Hoffmann of Bridgeport and Lee (Barb) Hoffmann of Bridgeport; and two sisters-in-law, Doloris Fehrenbach of Saginaw and Judy (Bill) Rosencrans of Saginaw. Also surviving are many loved nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Doris (Al) Fowler and Evelyn (Gerald) Knoll; a sister-in-law, Shirley (Rich) Machleid; and a brother-in-law, Jack Fehrenbach. A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2019 at Faith Lutheran Church, 4241 Williamson Rd., Bridgeport. Pastor Tim Behnke will officiate. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery. Friends are welcome to visit the family at the W.L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 5700 Dixie Hwy on Friday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. He will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Faith Lutheran Church and the Bridgeport Beautification Program.
