John “Jack” H. Schardt of Burt, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Chesaning Nursing and Rehab Center. He was 95 years old. John Henry Schardt was born on June 30, 1927, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late John and Elizabeth (Krause) Schardt. He married the love of his life, Peggy Ann Whelton, on July 30, 1948; she survives him. John proudly served his country in the United States Navy. He was employed as a welder with Consumer’s Energy, retiring after 35 years of loyal and dedicated service. John enjoyed working with his hands. He was a gifted and talented woodworker and loved to build Classic Cars, specifically Model A Fords. He will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather, for his hard work ethic, and for living an amazing life.

Surviving are his wife of nearly 74 years, Peggy Ann Schardt of Burt; a daughter and two sons: Kim Cooper of Montrose; Kurt (Kay) Schardt of Burt; Ricky (Kelly) Schardt of Burt; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Dan Schardt; son-in-law, Jay Cooper; one brother and six sisters and their spouses.
