Passed away Wednesday, March 16, 2016, at the Aleda Lutz Veteran's Adm. Care. Age 71 years. The son of the late Jack T. and Josephine (Derwinski) Kniat was born March 23, 1944 in Flint, Michigan. He married Peggy Ann Long, August 27, 1984. She survives him. John served with the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne Div. as a paratrooper during the Vietnam War. He owned and operated John's Lawn service and taught maintenance at the Saginaw City Rescue Mission. He was a member of the Prayer Room Ministry. His favorite pastime was fishing. Surviving besides his wife, Peggy, are two step-sons, Kevin Todd and Veronica Jestis; Andrew Scott and Ashley Jestis; three grandchildren, Todd, Autumn and Eric; three brothers, two sisters and their spouses, Paul and Geneva Kniat; Mark Kniat; Ruth and Albert Rahe; Jean and James Smith; Gary Kniat; a sister-in-law, Barbara Joseph; a brother-in-law and his wife, Richard and Arlene Long; many nieces and nephews. An infant brother, Donnie, has also predeceased him. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2016 at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 5700 Dixie Hwy. His step-son Kevin Jestis and Rev. Roy Bishop Jr. will officiate with Military burial in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, MI. Friends may call at the chapel from 2:00-9:00 p.m. Wednesday and then on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
