John Robert Edwards

Beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Monday, August 30, 2021, following a valiant battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was 72 years old. John Robert Edwards was born on April 29, 1949, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Robert D. and Dorothy A. (Ulrich) Edwards. He was a 1967 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. Following graduation John attended Northwood University and graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in banking and finance. He met the love of his life, Marlene Joyce (Dietrich) Stricker, while both working at Second National Bank. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on July 15, 1977, at State Street United Methodist Church; she survives him. John was a longtime banker with Second National Bank. In 1981, he and Marlene moved to Florida to relocate closer to his parents as well as to pursue other opportunities within the banking industry. In June 2013, John and Marlene returned to Saginaw. He enjoyed boating, being out in the water, and spending time near the pool entertaining family and friends. John and Marlene traveled throughout Florida to Michigan and back in their motorhome making stops everywhere in between. They frequently took trips to Disney World with his grandchildren. He was a competitive bridge player with family and friends. John was an excellent bowler, but also enjoyed golfing, cross country and downhill skiing. John loved bicycling and dancing with Marlene until the band stopped playing. Above all he treasured and cherished time spent with his wife, children, grandchildren, and pets. He will forever be remembered for his being kind and gentle, selfless, and teaching his grandchildren the art of being chivalrous.

Surviving are his wife of 44 years, Marlene J. Edwards of Saginaw; son: Todd J. (Jennifer) Stricker of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; three grandchildren: Jake (Grace) Stricker, Robert Stricker, and Hayley Stricker. Also surviving are may nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by a son, Mark J. Stricker.

Honoring John’s wishes cremation has taken place. His remains are to be entombed at Oakwood Memorial Mausoleum.
