Scott passed away suddenly on Sunday, September 10, 2017. He was born February 22, 1948 to Patricia Stapleton and the late Robert Stapleton. He graduated from Hemlock High School, Class of 1966. Scott loved life. He loved his family and spending time with his friends. He loved harness horse racing, watching sports on TV, his hometown of Hemlock, his Alma Mater, Alma College, and his fraternity, Delta Gamma Tau. He was a great story-teller and a generous soul. He was the proud owner and operator of Stapletons, Inc., with his two brothers, for over 40 years, a Hemlock family business since 1922. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jo, whom he married August 23, 1969; three daughters and one son and their spouses, Sherri (Troy) Stoike; Melissa Stapleton (Theo Verbrugge); Sarah (Jason) Gyolai; and Joel (Beth) Stapleton; his grandchildren, Peyton, Elise, Brendan, Zane, Hannah, Cole, Gus, and Penny. He is also survived by his mother, Patricia; his siblings, Nelson (Mary) Stapleton; Beth (Roger) Daugherty; Jay (Mary) Stapleton; Martha (Damien) Henning; many nieces and nephews. Scott was predeceased by his father, Robert; his father-in-law, Reid Torrey; his mother-in-law, Joyce Torrey; and the worlds greatest dog, Mandi. Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 15, 2017 at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. Rev. Robert Schultz will officiate with burial in St. Mary Cemetery, Hemlock. Friends may call at the chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd., from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Thursday and then on Friday from 12 noon until time of service.
