Joseph R. Giltrop
Bridgeport, Michigan
Our beloved Brother, Uncle and Friend passed away October 16, 2022, at the age of 90 years.
Joseph Giltrop was born December 11, 1931, in Bridgeport, Michigan, to Henry and Sophy (Moskal) Giltrop. Joe was a dairy farmer for many years on the family farm on Blackmar Road. Joe looked forward to the Giltrop family reunion to have many family members sample his homemade wine. He especially liked pheasant hunting, where many of his friends gathered on the farm. He was a life-long member of Assumption B.V.M. Catholic Church in Bridgeport until its closing in 2013. He was a member of Ss. Francis and Clare Catholic Church in Birch Run.
On October 26, 1968, Joe married Mary Claus. They were married for 16 years. She predeceased him. Carol Latty, his partner for many years, predeceased him in 2007.
Everybody from Bridgeport to Fosters to the Prairies knew Uncle Joe. He was always smiling and having a good time.
Surviving are his sisters who helped him in his ending years, JoAnn Popp and Lorraine (Dude) Psiuk; numerous nieces, nephews, and friends; and special friend Ed Urbanowski.
He was predeceased by his parents Henry and Sophy; brothers James Giltrop, William Giltrop, and Bernard Giltrop; Sisters Marie Wellman, Margaret Williams, Frances Stroik, Martha Bierman, and Bernadette Zietz.
A special “thank you” to Mary Thamm, who kept him supplied with candy and her home baked goods.
The family would like to thank the staff of Birch Run Fields Assisted Living for the special care they gave Joe.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00a.m. on Thursday, October 20, 2022, at Ss. Francis and Clare Catholic Church, 12157 Church Street, Birch Run.
