Joseph J. Greko

Passed away Thursday, March 22, 2018, with his family by his side. He was 95 years of age. Joseph John Greko was born September 28, 1922, in St. Charles to the late Michael and Katherine (Adamski) Greko. After his attendance at Arthur Hill Technical School, he entered the United States Army. Joseph was part of the Normandy D-day invasion and earned both the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. On May 4, 1946, he married Mary Laura Galiardi and they enjoyed 52 years of marriage until she predeceased him in 1998. Joseph was the Chief of Plant Protection for Saginaw Steering Gear, retiring after 41 years of service in 1981. He was an avid golfer and bowler, a voracious reader, enjoyed his annual deer hunting trips to the Mio/Luzerne area, and travelled often with his spouse. Joseph had a great devotion and love for God. He was a life-time member of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, serving on funeral services and handling usher duties. Joseph is survived by his six children, Peter (Alice) Greko, Joseph Greko, Mary Jo Wortley, John (Nancy) Greko, Patricia (Gregory) DeMaet, and Michael (Bonnie) Greko; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Liturgy will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, March 27, 2018, at St. Dominic Parish, SS Peter & Paul Church, 4735 W. Michigan Ave. Rev. Jack Johnson will officiate with burial in St. Andrews Cemetery where military honors will be conducted by VFW Post #1859. Friends may visit with the family at the W. L. Case Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road on Monday, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday at the Church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of liturgy. A rosary service will be held Monday at 8:00 p.m. at the Case Chapel.
