Joy Ann Loucks (Williams)

Loving wife, mother, and grandmother passed away on May 31, 2023, at Toni & Trish House in Auburn, Michigan, at the age of 88. Joy was born on December 20th, 1934, to the late Wilford and Wilma (Walker) Williams and was a graduate of Wyandotte High School. After graduating, Joy continued her education, earning a bachelor's degree from the University of Michigan (UofM) and a master’s degree from Saginaw Valley State University, both in Education. It was at UofM that Joy met Bob Loucks while attending a fraternity event and the pair was soon inseparable. They would marry on October 22nd, 1955, and the couple would spend more than 67 years together as they watched a happy and loving family grow up around them. He survives her.

Joy spent her working years as an educator, helping children learn to read as an elementary school teacher. In her free time, Joy kept quite the social calendar and valued friendship dearly. She was a member of the Saginaw Lawyers’ Wives Club, the Mayflower Society, the Germania Town & Country Club where she sat as the Women’s Golf Chairwoman, and was active in the Heritage Square Association. She loved traveling throughout the world with Bob, such as their time spent on an Alaskan cruise or exploring China, and the pair put down roots together at their beach house in Port Aransas in retirement.  Joy enjoyed decorating, especially for Christmas, and was part of a 40+ year-long potluck tradition that was a defining part of her life. She loved watching UofM football, the Rosebowl on New Year’s Day, and Masters Weekend. She also cherished her canine companions Fluffy, Daisy, and Pixie. Joy is remembered as being what her name implied: joyous and a joy to have around. She was cheerful and thoughtful, and she left little notes everywhere as a reminder of the attentiveness and love she never failed to share with her friends and family.

Joy is survived by her husband of over 67 years, Bob Loucks; children Charles (Aysel) Loucks, Thomas Loucks, and John (Andrea) Loucks; and grandchildren Erik Loucks, Andrew Loucks, Walker Loucks, Wyatt (Anna) Loucks, and Aidan Loucks; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, other family members, and friends.

Joy was preceded in death by her brother William Williams.

The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Toni and Trish house for their excellent care and consideration in her final days.

In accordance with Joy’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service is planned for 3:30pm on Saturday, August 26th, 2023, at W.L. Case & Company, 4480 Mackinaw Rd.
