Joyce Ann Metiva of Zilwaukee, Michigan
Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully on Friday, August 2, 2024, at Symphony – Tri-Cities in Bay City. She was 75 years old. Joyce Ann Featheringill was born on August 10, 1948, in Tawas City, Michigan to the late George M. and Ethel R. (McDougall) Featheringill. She attended Tawas Public Schools and Tawas High School. While working at the Singing Bridge Restaurant, Joyce met the love of her life, Raymond W. Metiva. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on May 25, 1968, at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church in Tawas; he preceded her in death on April 29, 2011. The role of her lifetime, one she treasured and cherished above all others, was to be a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. After raising her family, Joyce selflessly worked as an at home caretaker. She was a longtime and faithful member of St. Matthew Catholic Church in Zilwaukee. Joyce enjoyed playing various card games, working on both word and number puzzles, and coin collecting. She also enjoyed the peace and tranquility gardening brought to her life. Whether it was tending to her outdoor vegetable and flower gardens, or nurturing her indoor plants, especially her violets, she used her innate ability of love and care for plants to grow anything. Nobody loved the Detroit Tigers more than Joyce and she could often be found watching a game on television cheering them on. Later in life, she enjoyed pressing her luck at the casino in Mt. Pleasant and Standish, as well as going out to dinner at Denny’s. Her children and grandson were the absolute love of her lifetime, but a close second would be sipping on her cup of black coffee every day. Though she could be a little feisty, Joyce will forever be remembered for beautiful smile, her wonderful and unique sense of humor, for always making Christmas a magical season, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.
Surviving are her three children: Mary (Laurance) Roth of Woodbridge, VA; Jeffrey (Angela) Metiva of Zilwaukee; and Kelly (Stephen) Jacob of Saginaw; one grandson; Laurance Roth of Woodbridge, VA; a sister, Janet (Vic) Schultz of Marshfield, WI; two sisters-in-law, Kareen Featheringill of WY; and Carol Featheringill of AZ; a brother-in-law, Mike Schellenbarger of Oscoda. Also surviving are countless nieces, nephews, extended family and friends too numerous to list but held closely to her heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond W. Metiva; five siblings: Joseph (Murriel) Benson, David Featheringill; Burt Featheringill; Ronald Featheringill; and Thelma Shellenbarger.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Cathy Miller for all the love, care, and friendship she provided to Joyce.
Honoring Joyce’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Joyce’s life will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2024, at the W. L.
