Judith A. Zastrow (Judi)
Hemlock, Michigan
July 3, 1941- June 9, 2023
Passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family after a long illness. Judi was known for her love of children, animals, and music. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School in Saginaw and received her Bachelor of Music Education after attending Michigan State University and Saginaw Valley State University. Judi taught all her life throughout schools in the Hemlock area, including Zion Lutheran School of Iva, St. Peter Lutheran School, and Hemlock Public Schools. She was an accomplished organist and vocalist, playing organ and singing for local churches. She taught many local children how to play the piano. She was very active in the Hemlock Community, serving as President of the Hemlock Band Boosters – helping to send (and chaperone) the Hemlock High School Concert and Jazz Bands all over the world. She was known to all the band kids as “Mama Z”. She also served as the President of the Library Board of the Mary Rauchholz Memorial Library in Hemlock. Judi loved to spend her free time camping with friends, playing with her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and being involved in music. She also made beautifully decorated cakes for many weddings and other special occasions in the area.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Robert A. Zastrow; her Daughters, Dawn (Jeff) Budge and Cindy (Teri) Zastrow; her grandchildren Michael (Amanda) Budge, and Laura (Jason) Aldrich; her great-grandchildren Abigail Budge, Charlie Budge, and Max Aldrich; Sisters-in-Law Kathy Case and Norma Siddons, and many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends. She was predeceased by her mother and father, Georgia and Jack Nevins; her brother, Claral Siddons; Mother-in-law and Father-in-Law Edna and Alvin Zastrow; Brother-in-law Tom Case, and cherished best friend, Janet Hubbell.
