June Cecile Johnson (Smith)

Loving mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt passed away peacefully while home on hospice on Monday, December 25^th, 2023, at the age of 72. June was born on June 1^st, 1951, in Merrill, Michigan, to the late Donald and Pauline (Gross) Smith and was a 1969 graduate of Merrill High School. She worked as a nursing assistant for Schnepps Nursing Home and Gratiot Community Hospital, giving her loving care and attention to countless patients throughout the years. In her free time, June lived for her family. She cherished the time she spent with her family and enjoyed the many gatherings. June is remembered for her spunk, humor that could be inappropriate at times, work ethic, fighting spirit, and empathy for others. She was very loved and will be missed dearly.

June is survived by children Heather (Michael) Stasa and Tyler Burgess; grandson Abram Stasa; sisters Ann Sherman, Sue Riever, and Betty Limron; and brother-in-law Gene Meyer; as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, other family members, and friends.

June was preceded in death by sister Donna Meyer and brothers-in-law Jim Sherman and Dave Limron.

The family would like to give their loving thanks to Sue Riever and Betty Limron for all the years of care and support. A special thank you to Great Lakes PACE and A&D Hospice.

In accordance with June’s wishes, cremation is to take place. A memorial service for June will take place at 3:00pm on Saturday, January 13^th, 2024, at W.L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 125 E Saginaw St, Merrill, MI 48637. Visitation will take place at the funeral home from 12:00pm until the time of service.
