Hock, Karl A. Hemlock, Michigan Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, went home to rest in the Lord on Sunday, September 20, 2015. Karl passed away after a lengthy battle with mesothelioma at the age of 77 years. He was born January 6, 1938, in Midland County, the son of the late Virgil and Helen (Entenmann) Hock. He graduated from Hemlock High School with the Class of 1956. He served with the US Army. Karl was carpenter throughout his life, including his employment at Dow Chemical Company, work for friends, family and others, and in his mission work. He was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Midland, and also served as an usher there. He was devoted to his mission work with his carpentry, serving the Lord both locally and in Missouri, Mississippi, and Alaska. He enjoyed camping and fishing, playing poker and horseshoes, and woodworking. He loved spending time with his family, especially with his granddaughter, Clarissa, who predeceased him. He married Charlene Zastrow on February 17, 1962; she survives him. He also leaves two daughters, one son, and two sons-in-law, Carey and Kenneth Daubert, Freeland; Sandy and Jim Urbaniak, Hemlock; Neil Hock, Sanford; five grandchildren, Emily, Robert, Kurtis, Cole and Clay; two sisters, Maxine Diener and Phyllis and her husband Ned Mudd; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Ann Moore, Lloyd and Joyce Zastrow, and Ken and Cheryl Zastrow; several nieces, nephews, and their families. Besides his parents and granddaughter, Clarissa, he was predeceased by two brothers-in-law, Howard Diener and Arthur Moore, and one nephew, Gene Diener. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1550 S. Poseyville Rd., Midland. Rev. Kurt Weber will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. His family will receive friends at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, from 2:00 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, and then at the church on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
