Katharina (Egertz) Ross

Went home to our Lord with family by her side on January 11, 2021. Age 92 years.

The daughter of the late Johann and Rosalia (Quintus) Egertz was born on December 13, 1928, in Yugoslavia, the oldest of 10 children. She married Jacob Ross on January 27, 1951 in Hohenpeisenberg, Germany. He predeceased her after 62 years of marriage on October 19, 2013. She came to America with her husband and daughter Magdalena in 1952 sponsored by a farm in Maryland, where they worked on a farm for a year, then went to Wilmot, Arkansas where Jacob’s brother, Heinrich, was with his family. Katharina stayed there with her husband and daughter through the birth of their son Jacob Jr. from 1953 through 1957. Then Katharina and her family came to Michigan in Jacob’s search of Automotive industry work. Katharina worked at the pickle factory, Remer’s Heating and Plumbing and Edward’s Men Shop before retiring. In their golden years they bought and remodeled a small farm where they enjoyed farming and raising cows, goats, chickens and rabbits. Katharina’s huge garden and many flowers were her pride and joy for many many years. She loved sharing her abundance of vegetables and fruits with family, friends and neighbors. She also had a talent for cooking and baking that everyone that knew her enjoyed. You never left her house hungry! She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church since 1973, where she was on the Ladies Aide. She was also a member of the GBU Club since 1965. She enjoyed polkas, socializing, and was an avid Saginaw Spirit hockey fan. Special thank you to The Roosevelt House where she resided for 8 months.

Surviving are her children: Magdalena (Richard) Laramy of Merrill, MI., Jacob “Jack” (Sue) Ross, Jr. of Hemlock, MI., Linda (Denny) Thiel of Saginaw, MI., grandchildren: Amy (Tom) Rumpel, Tim (Holly) Ross, Adam (Cheyanna) Ross, Sarah (Steve) Diener, John Laramy, Rick Laramy and Melissa Thiel. Great-grandchildren: Korey Rumpel, Emily Rumpel, Ross and Ivan Diener, Liam and Everly Ross, and Katelyn Thiel. Great-great-grandchildren: Ryan and Elliot Thiel-Denay. Siblings: Hanz (Lena) Egertz of Germany, and a very special nephew Roland (Uschi) Egertz of Germany.

She was predeceased by 8 of her siblings and a grandson, Ryan Thiel.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, January 15, 2021, at Christ Lutheran Church, 8795 Ederer Rd, Saginaw. Rev. Joshua Becker will officiate with burial to follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may visit with the family at church from 10:00 am until the time of service.
