Kimberly "Kim" Jean Byron

Kimberly “Kim” Jean Byron of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend passed away peacefully with her family by her side, on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Covenant HealthCare – Harrison. She was 61 years old. Kimberly Jean Johnson was born on May 8, 1963, in Detroit, Michigan to the late Gerald C. and Lorena Belle (Schull) Johnson. She was a proud 1981 graduate of Swan Valley High School. Kim met the love of her life, Douglas M. Byron, serendipitously through her brother. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on August 12, 1995; he survives her. Kim worked as an Asset Protection Team Leader at Meijer on Gratiot Road, serving over 27 years of loyal and dedicated service. The role of her lifetime, one she truly treasured above all others, was to be a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her little piece of heaven was spending time with her family, especially with her grandchildren, they made her heart and life feel full and complete. Kim enjoyed taking her yearly trip to the Renaissance festival, playing her weekly Dungeon and Dragons games, and attending Saginaw Spirit games with her family. She was creative and used these skills to meticulously paint miniatures, as well as crochet blankets for everyone she loved. Affectionately known as “grandma bubbles”, Kim baked the most incredible snickerdoodle, chocolate chip, and chocolate crinkle cookies, always using her secret ingredient “love” to make everything taste perfect. She will forever be remembered for her loving and compassionate spirit, for her honesty and hard work ethic, for always being fun no matter the circumstance, and for truly living and amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.

Surviving are her husband of 29 years, Douglas M. Byron of Saginaw; two children: Jared (Bridget) Obendorfer of West Bend, WI; Emily Byron and her longtime partner, James Wagner of Peoria, IL; seven grandchildren: Hailey Obenberger; Maya Knight; Charlie Obendorfer, Asher Obendorfer; Atticus Obendorfer; Cara Roush; Theoden Byron-Wagner; a brother, Erik Johnson of Pembine, WI; a sister-in-law, Rebecca Byron of Saginaw; a brother-in-law, Jeffrey Byron of Wixom. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gerald C. and Lorena Belle Johnson.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses at Covenant HealthCare – Harrison oncology unit for all the love and care they provided to Kim and the family.
