Beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Saturday, February 16, 2019 at War Memorial Hospital, in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan at the age of 83 years. Larry was born August 1, 1935 in Carrollton, Michigan, the son of the late Robert A. and Mae Z. (Ellamae Dalton) Van Hautte. He graduated from Arthur Hill Tech. He proudly served in the United States Army. He married the love of his life, Noreen K. Robinson on February 11, 1967; she survives him. Larry retired in 1993 from Saginaw Asphalt Paving after many years of dedicated service. He raced sprint cars and supermodifieds locally and nationally, and was successful everywhere. He was also an avid NASCAR fan. He was also a member of the Sugar Island Lions Club and was nominated as Lion of the year. He enjoyed going to the Hilltop for his morning coffee and seeing his Sugar Island Cronies. Many winter trips to Florida and various places across the U.S. He was known for helping friends fixing things in his garage.
Surviving are his wife of 52 years, Noreen; children, Earl (Ann) Van Hautte of Saginaw, Kimberly (Kenneth) Cragg of Freeland; grandchildren, Kyle (Kylie) Cragg, Kevin Cragg, Megan Van Hautte, Michelle Van Hautte; and a sister; sister-in-law Katherine (Michael) MacDonald, niece Ann (Ed) Roubal, nephew John MacDonald, great nieces Kasia, Maggie, Ellie and extended family members and friends. Larry leaves his beloved best little buddies, Mazy and Mick. He was predeceased in death by a baby sister, Ann Van Hautte.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. with military services under the auspices of American Legion Post 22 to follow. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral chapel on Tuesday February 19, 2019, at the chapel from 2:00-8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
