Hess, Larry Lon Saginaw, Michigan Passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at St. Mary's of Michigan. Larry was born on September 5, 1938 in Detroit, the son of the late Lyle A. and Margaret (Scott) Hess. On December 29, 1956 he married Karen Doud, she survives him. He graduated from Vassar High School and the Saginaw Business Institute. Larry served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He retired from Leaseway on September 1, 1999. He was a member of the American Legion Post #439, and the Falcon Club. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, camping, traveling, and helping others with any of their projects. Surviving besides his wife of 57 years, Karen, are their children: Gregory (Melissa) Hess, Michele (Hess) Valentine, four granddaughters: Lindsay, Emma, Sophia Hess, and Trinity Valentine, a sister: Grace Proffer, brothers: Thomas (Janet) Hess, Albert (Rita) Hess and many other loving family members. He was predeceased by a brother-in-law Telford Proffer. The family would like to thank special longtime friends Roger and Joanne Boehler and Jeffery Taylor for all their help and support during Larry's illness. Funeral service will take place at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 25, 2014 at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. Chaplain Donald Bennett will officiate with military burial at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens under the auspices of American Legion Post #439. Friends may visit with the family on Sunday from 2:00-7:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:30a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
