Laura Lamson Humphreys

Laura Lamson Humphreys, 88, of Saginaw, Michigan, died peacefully in her sleep on November 26, 2016. She was born Laura Marie Lamson on January 12, 1928 at Saginaw General Hospital. She was the first child of Maurice and Irene Lamson. She was joined two years later by her sister and life-long best friend, Dorothy Lamson Ludington. Laura was a graduate of Harcum Junior College in Bryn Mawr, PA, where she earned a degree in Merchandising. This led Laura to a career at the J. L. Hudson Company in Detroit, where she met B. J. (Bob) Humphreys. They were wed on December 1st, 1951. Upon Bob's graduation from the Detroit College of Law, the family returned to Saginaw. Laura was a homemaker, devoted to her family and active in her community. She was a tireless volunteer at the Saginaw General Hospital, (now Covenant) Gift Shop, where during her tenure she logged over 5, 800 volunteer hours. She was a member of the Saginaw Junior League, Saginaw Garden Club, and the First Congregational Church. Laura will be remembered by her family as a gracious lady with a gentle soul. Creative, artistic, and with a keen sense of humor, Laura had a laugh and giggle that was contagious and would light up a room. If asked what she liked to do in her spare time, her answer would be "to shop!" She loved to travel with Bob, visiting all 50 states and many foreign countries, but Laura's favorite place was her cottage at Point Lookout, Michigan, purchased by Maurice and Irene in 1947 and shared by five generations of her family. Laura's children and grandchildren will best remember her sitting on her porch swing, looking out at Lake Huron with a smile. Laura is survived by her husband of nearly 65 years, B. J. Humphreys, her three children, Sarah A. L. Humphreys (Lawrence Mason) of Baltimore, MD; John D. L. Humphreys (Martha) of Saginaw; and Susan H. Meyer (Stephen) of Okatie, SC. She is survived by six grandchildren, Elizabeth S. Woods (Jeffry), J. Cullen Humphreys, Stephen S. Meyer (Hillary), Joseph L. Meyer, Peter Mason, and Katherine Mason Fink (Joshua) and two great grandchildren, Nathaniel Woods and Abigail Fink. Services will be private.
