Laverne "John" Slancik Saginaw, Michigan Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother went home to the Lord on October 24, 2017, at the age of 70 years. John was born October 8, 1947, in Saginaw to the late Michael and Anna (Churnesky) Slancik. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from Delphi after 38 years of service. He enjoyed gambling, traveling, playing pool, and creating beautiful works of art. He loved spending time with his family especially his grandchildren. John will be dearly missed by his wife of 29 years, Brenda (Ray) Slancik; children, Amy Slancik, Stephen (Heather) Slancik, and Sarah Davis; grandchildren, Jacob, Justin, Kyle, Carter, and Abbie; siblings, Bob (Jean) Slancik, Shirley Wiles, and Sally (Ron) Fries; siblings-in-law, Charles Schulz, Connie Slancik, and Sandy Slancik; and many nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was predeceased by his daughter, Stacey Slancik; siblings and siblings-in-law, Betty Schulz, Rosemary (Chuck) Frick, Ron Slancik, Jim (Pat) Slancik, Bill Slancik, Dick Slancik, Garold Wiles, and Al Haswell. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, October 28, 2017, at W.L. Case & Company 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Rev. Bill Bodnar will officiate with burial to take place at Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with military honors rendered by VFW Post 1859 of Carrollton. Friends may visit with the family on Friday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and again on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
