Lawrence E. Tappen, Sr.

Lawrence E. Tappen Carrollton, Michigan Our loving father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away on Thursday, December 5, 2019. Age 98 years. He was born on June 2,1921, son of the late Leon and Tilley (Meyer) Tappen, in Roscommon, Michigan. Lawrence married Marilyn Rausch on September 9,1972. She predeceased him on January 10,2015. He served in the US Army during WWII as a T5 Corporal and was a member of V.F.W. Post 1859. Coming home after serving his country, Lawrence owned Tappen Carpet Service and Larry's Gulf Service. He later worked at St. Lukes Hospital and retired from there. Even in retirement, he continued to work, purchasing and managing Tappen's Motel in the U.P. along with other ventures until the age of 92. Lawrence enjoyed spending time with family, traveling and trying new restaurants. He had a zest for life and new experiences. He always had great stories to tell and there was never a dull moment in his life. Lawrence will be missed by his children, Lawrence 'Butch' (Carol) Tappen, Jr., James 'Jim' (Nancy) Tappen, George (Corina) Tappen, Robert (Cheri) Tappen, Patricia (Ervin) Rausch, Susan (Larry) Rolka, Mark (Tammy) Tappen, and stepchildren Kay Moore, Ervin Glenn, Marsha (Louis) Lopez and Gerald (Carla) Rausch; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by stepson Robert Sharon III, stepdaughter Martha Poineau, a grandson Jeffrey Tappen and granddaughter Johnna Dittmar. The family would like to express their appreciation to the Aleda V. Lutz Medical Center Palliative Care Unit for the care of their father. Funeral service will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at W. L. Case and Company, 4480 Mackinaw Road. Rev. Robert Richards will officiate. Friends may visit with the family on Thursday, December 12, 2019 from 12:00 Noon until 8:00 p.m. Burial will take place at 1:30 PM Friday, December 13, 2019 at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, MI. Please be at the cemetery by 1:15 p.m.
