Leonard "Bud" Kraatz

Leonard "Bud" Kraatz Saginaw, Michigan Beloved husband, father, grandfather, greatgrandfather, brother, uncle, and friend went home to be with the Lord, Thursday, February 27, 2014. Age 84 years. A lifelong resident of Saginaw, Leonard was born February 28, 1929, the son of Dorothea (Alsgaard) and Edward Kraatz and step-father, Francis Matuzak. He married Shirley Sager November 7, 1953. Recently they celebrated 60 years together. Shirley survives him. Leonard was a faithful 50-year member of Peace Lutheran Church, serving as an elder, usher, Sunday School Superintendent and School Board member for more than 20 years, and on many committees and boards. He loved serving the Lord in any way. He was a graduate of Saginaw High School, Class of 1946; served with the U. S. Army during the Korean War. Len was employed in the plumbing and heating industry for over 50 years in inside sales and management at Reichle Supply, Bigelow Co, R.H. Taylor, Gage Co, and retiring from Ferguson Enterprises. He then worked for W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Home for 9 years. He coached girls' softball, loved spending time at parent's cottages on Skidway Lake and the AuSable River, enjoyed Bible study, following current events and reading, but most of all he cherished his family and friends and his time spent with them. Surviving besides his wife, Shirley, are his daughters and their husbands, Sherry and Dr. Michael Ledtke; Jill and Thomas Peck; an "adopted" daughter, Dawn Lojek, all of Saginaw, MI; eleven grandchildren and their spouses, Kyle and Ronni Peck; Ẵndrea Peck; Taylor and Melissa Peck; Amy Peck; Joseph and Kasi Kreger; Matthew and Kelly Weston, Sarah, Brian, David and Jenna Ledtke; three great grandchildren; two brothers, a sister and their spouses, William and Verna Kraatz; Cherryl Matuzak; John and Linda Matuzak; a sister-in-law, Evelyn Kraatz; an aunt, Elaine Alsgaard; a son-in-law, David Weston; many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Len was predeceased by his parents and a daughter, Fay Weston, his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Evelyn and Abner Sager, his brothers, Robert and Edward Kraatz, and his brother-in-law, Ralph Sager. The funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 3, 2014, at Peace Lutheran Church, 3427 Adams Ave. at Mackinaw. Rev. C. William Weis will officiate. Friends may call at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday and then at the Church from 10:00 a.m. Monday until the time of the funeral service.
