Leslie "Les" Stanton of Birch Run
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, and brother passed away peacefully at his home, with his wife by his side, on Friday, October 18, 2019. He was 70 years old. Leslie Walter Stanton was born on December 18, 1948, in Detroit, Michigan, to the late Walter and Berenice (Kraemer) Stanton. He was a proud 1967 graduate of Bridgeport High School. Following graduation, Les attended Delta College for one year. He then enlisted in the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War as a gunman, crew chief, helicopter mechanic; ultimately receiving an honorable discharge and receiving many awards and commendations. He married the love of his life, Shirley Kay Nichols on September 15, 1973, in Saginaw; she survives him. Les was employed with General Motors for 31 years before retiring from Flint Metal Fab in 2004. He enjoyed hunting, trap shooting and going to NASCAR races. Above all, he loved and cherished his family and will forever be remembered for his indomitable spirit and hard work ethic.
Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Shirley K. Stanton of Birch Run; son, Brian (Angela) Stanton of Portland; two grandchildren: Katelyn Paige and Zachary Michael Stanton; three sisters: Sandra (Peter) Nesteroke of Monte Rio, CA; Karen Bruce of Traverse City; Noreen Reardon of Kalamazoo.
He was preceded in death by a sister, JoAnne Stanton; brother-in-law, Lloyd Bruce.
