Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Covenant HealthCare Harrison, with her family at her side. Age 73 years. 

The daughter of the late William E. and Ruth J. (McPherson) Cook, Lillian was born on July 1, 1951, Alma, Michigan. She graduated from Ithaca High School, as her Class Salutatorian of 1969. Lillian then continued her education at the Saginaw Business Institute. She worked various positions at the Saginaw County Court House where she was hired at the District Court, then the Prosecutor’s Office, and retired as the Office Manager of the Equalization Department after nearly 30 years of loyal and dedicated service. Lillian married Robert W. Merdler on August 6, 2000. He preceded her in death on April 8, 2020. She was a member of Saginaw Valley Church of the Nazarene. Lillian’s little piece of Heaven was reading. She also found joy playing Yahtzee, crafting needlepoint, and watching her sitcoms. Lillian had a particular fondness for shopping, especially online which often brought surprises and delight to her life. Her vibrant spirit and love for the color purple were emblematic of her unique personality. Above all, Lillian cherished the time spent with her family and loved ones. 

Surviving are her son and his wife, Scott and Gennine Chisholm; granddaughter, Jackie (Joe) Lamont; sisters, Cheryl E. Cook, Chris (Kevin) Lombard, Valerie (Scott) Snyder, Michele (Ray) Rettig; brother-in-law, Michael Merdler; and sister-in-law, Margo (Robert) Walker; nieces and nephews, Kevin (Kristi) Cook, Brent (Kalin) Lombard, Sarah (Zakery) Spencer, Heather (Jake) Faber, Emily (Vincent) Kirsch, Jamey Rettig (fiancé Austin Hickman); and many great nieces and nephews of whom she adored. Also surviving are extended family members and love ones. Besides her husband and parents; Lillian was preceded in death by her brothers and sister, David Cook, Allen (Edna) Cook, Beverly Cook. 

Funeral service will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Rd, Saginaw, MI 48603. Rev. Kevin Cook will officiate. Graveside Service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at North Star Cemetery, 3181 E. Johnson Rd, Ithaca, MI 48847. Friends may gather with the family from 3:00 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the funeral chapel.
