Newvine, Lloyd J. "Bud" Merrill, Michigan Passed away Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at his home with his family by his side, age 89 years. Lloyd was born in Saginaw, Michigan January 29, 1926 the son of the late Lloyd and Elizabeth (Brooks) Newvine. He was a member of Washington Avenue Presbyterian Church and sang in the choir. As a youngster, he grew up in Saginaw. He attended South School and Webber School. He was a 1944 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. He delivered groceries during his senior year for Bill Lee Grocery on Bond St. Bud was drafted by July, 1944 and was sent to Mineral Wells, Texas for military training for the army. He often spoke of his "BAR" Rifle. He had a lot of faith and trust in it. He was shipped overseas to "Saipan" and Okinawa and fought hand to hand combat with the Japanese soldiers. Bud was wounded and received a Purple Heart and numerous other medals. Bud worked at his parents' store in McIvor, Michigan, near the Tawas area. He became the youngest Postmaster in Michigan for the Sand Lake area at the age of 21. He served on the funeral detail for the VFW. He married Viola Ferris at the Methodist Church in Whittemore, MI May 19, 1955 and she survives him. They moved to Merrill then Bud got a job at Dow-Corning. He worked as a Service Dispatch Supervisor until his retirement in 1988, after 33 years. Bud enjoyed deer hunting, making Willow furniture, making yellow wreaths through the Desert Storm War and planting Oak trees. He loved his 12 acre woods. In addition to his wife, Viola, Bud is survived by two sons, Lloyd (Tari) Newvine, III and Bruce (Lori) Newvine; a daughter, Sue Ellen (Ron) Honaman; 11 grandchildren, Brooke, Sara, Leslie, Julie, Kimberly, Marcus, Shannon, Jordan, Crystal, Stacy and Craig; 13 great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathryn Valliere; his uncle, Charles Newvine and many close friends. He was predeceased by his sister, Jean Borchard. The funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2015 at W. L. Case & Company, Merrill, MI. Rev. Bill Evans will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens where military services will take place under the care of Hemlock-Merrill VFW Post No. 7302. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral chapel Monday from 2:00 4:00 p.m. & 6:00 8:00 p.m. as well as Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service.
