On Monday January 18th, 2021, Lloyd J. McCliggott, at the age of 90, was reunited with his wife and best friend, JoAnn (Sprunger) McCliggott.
Lloyd was born on February 20th, 1930 in Saginaw Michigan to Joseph John (1905-1939), and Leona Agnes (Cottrell) McCliggott (1902-1978). Lloyd was the fourth of five siblings; Hilda Virginia Cottrell (1923-2010), Neoma McCliggott (1925-2007), Arthur Lewis McCliggott (1927-1983), and Duane John McCliggott (1935-). Raised in Saginaw, Lloyd spent his youthful summers working his Grandparents farm in Au Gres, Michigan, which led to his love for the small town.
While attending St. Andrews High School in Saginaw, Lloyd was an outstanding athlete and captain of the High School football and basketball teams. He met his wife to be, JoAnn Sprunger while lifeguarding at Anderson Pool. They were later married on October 28th, 1950 in Saginaw, Michigan. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage prior to JoAnn's death, on June 10th, 2006. Lloyd and JoAnn's avid love of the water, sports, music, reading and family have been passed on through their six children, Lloyd J McCliggott Jr. (Nancy Byrd) of Philomont, VA, Susan McCliggott (Mark Birney) of Marquette, MI, Timothy M McCliggott, of Winchester, VA, Judie McCliggott (Dan Dupuis) of Goodland, FL, Kelly McCliggott of Saginaw, MI, and Jamie McCliggott (Darrell Lubben) of Kokomo, IN.
Lloyd was employed by General Motors, Gray Iron Foundry as an electrical engineer until his retirement at 55 years young. Lloyd and JoAnn then moved from Saginaw to their waterfront home in Au Gres, MI. In the 35 years of owning the beachfront home, many fond memories were made with their grandchildren: Nick, Mary, TJ, Chris, RJ, Shelby, Meghan, Sarah, Jenna, and Spencer; as well as their neighbors. He also enjoyed spending time with his many nieces, nephews and great-grandchildren; Natalie, Fiona, Finn, Eddie, Benji and Quinn. After JoAnn's death, Lloyd began spending his winters in Marco Island, FL; where he enjoyed many visitors and the company of his youngest brother, Duane.
Lloyd J McCliggott' s quiet sense of humor, broad smile along with his kind and compassionate spirit will be missed by those who knew him well. A celebration of his, and JoAnn's life will be honored by his family when the shores of Lake Huron are warm.
