Born January 17, 1926
Born in Saginaw, MI, Lois graduated from St. Peter and Paul High School in 1943. She went on to pursue a career in nursing, graduating from St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing in 1946. Lois married Lawrence E. Marentette in 1947 and moved to Detroit, where she was employed as a Registered Nurse. She later became a supervisor and then Director of Nursing in several Detroit area hospitals.
In 1966, she initiated a successful Nurse-Aid and Orderly Program for senior students of two St. Clair Shores, MI high schools that she conducted at St. John Hospital in Detroit for 10 years.
Lois married Robert A. Peterson, M.D., in 1974, and they moved to Gaylord, where her husband established a pathology laboratory. Lois managed the office until the practice closed due to her husband's illness.
Lois was predeceased by her parents: William and Hortense Owens Gordon of Saginaw; her husband Robert A. Peterson, M.D.; her son James E. Marentette of Gaylord; her two brothers: William and James Gordon of Saginaw; her two sisters: T. Marie Clark and Sally Markey of Saginaw; and her very close and loving best friend of many years, Rex O'Dell of Saginaw.
She is survived by two grandsons: Jason E. Marentette and Jeremy L Marentette, both of Lansing; four stepchildren: Lisa Peterson of North Hollywood, CA, Lori Vahle of Newbury Park, CA, Robert D Peterson of Los Angeles, CA, and Rik Peterson of Royal Oak; three greatgrandchildren; 11 step-grandchildren; fourteen step-great-grandchildren; and three step-great-great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, January 26, 2024, at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Directors, 4480 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw, MI, 48603. Rev. Ted McCulloch will officiate. Honoring Lois’ wishes, cremation will follow the service, with inurnment at Chapel Hill Mausoleum at a later date. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral chapel on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
