Lonnie "Lon" Allen Yancer

Lonnie “Lon” Allen Yancer Sr. of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Thursday, August 8, 2024. He was 64 years old. Lonnie Allen Yancer was born on December 27, 1959, in Saginaw, Michigan to Wilbur Franklin and Shirley Ann (Pressley) Yancer. His working career began at the young age of 11 where he had a newspaper route and would shovel snow and cut grass. Lonnie attended Arthur Hill High School and in December of 1977, at 17 years old, he enlisted in the United States Army serving with the Second Infantry Division in Korea until his honorable discharge in the Spring of 1979. Lonnie was a proud member of the V.F.W., serving as a Chaplin and treasurer. A perfectionist by nature, Lonnie created a name for himself with his excellent work ethic. He worked with NK Manufacturing and Cascade Engineering in Grand Rapids, and later for Magna Mirrors as a Process Engineer in Newaygo. As a young man, he met the love of his life, Susan Lynn Murphy, and had never forgot about the love he had for her. Separated by years, they were serendipitously reunited and united in marriage on October 4, 2019, in Ionia County; she survives him. As a young boy Lonnie became a beacon of light and energy to all children. He carried that spirit with him into adulthood, loving his children beyond measure. Lonnie was a longtime member of Michigan Avenue Baptist Church, where he was baptized, and often would volunteer his time and talent whenever needed. An avid outdoorsman, he loved the peace and tranquility fishing and hunting brought to his life. Lonnie was a gifted and talented woodworker, creating and building anything from furniture to an outdoor swing set. Above all, he loved and cherished his family and friends. He will forever be remembered as an excellent artist, a man who embodied the spirit of being punctual and on time, for his love of dogs, especially Butcher, and for truly living an amazing life filed with many beautiful memories and stories.

Surviving are his wife, Susan Lynn Yancer of Saginaw; three children: Lonnie Allen (Ana) Yancer Jr. of Grand Rapids; Terry Allen Yancer of Portland; Jessica Paige Murphy and her fiancé, Zachary Orth of Apopka, FL; stepson Jacob Murphy of Palmer MA; Dustin Slusser whom was like a son to Lonnie of Caldonia; 10 grandchildren: Emma, Dominic, Owen, Donnie, Eric, Jacob, Avery, Carli, Alex, and Alie; mother, Shirley Ann Yancer of Saginaw; two brothers and a sister: Wil Yancer of Lake City; Margaret Chinery of Bridgeport; and Dean (Laura) Yancer of Saginaw; a best friend, Greg Daubert of MA. Also surviving are an aunt, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews, too numerous to list, but held closely to his heart.

He was preceded in death by a son, Rex Allen Yancer, father, Wilbur Franklin Yancer.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the family members that have been by his side surrounding him with love.

A funeral service will take place at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2024, at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd., Saginaw, MI 48603. Pastor JD Howell will officiate.
