Loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, passed away on March 07, 2022, at her home with her family by her side. Age 89 years.
Daughter of the late Earl and Genevieve (Dore) Avery, was born on June 14, 1932, in Saginaw. She was a proud graduate of Arthur Hill High School. During her time there she was the National Women's Champion in Archery. She was even featured in the 1948 Encyclopedia Britannica under archery.
Lorraine went on to receive her undergraduate degree from Western Michigan University. She continued her education at Michigan State University and Ball State University, receiving her Master's Degree +60 in Education. Lorraine was very adventurous and strong willed. She traveled the world and taught on Guam for two years during the Vietnam War, bringing her 10 and 9 year old children with her. When she returned to the United States she continued teaching various levels of schooling. She taught high school English, all grades of elementary school, as well as special education. She even taught blind children and was a consultant for the blind.
Lorraine was an avid camper and she enjoyed crafting and sewing clothes. She was a very talented seamstress, making clothes for her daughter and her barbies. Lorraine was a very devoted grandmother; she even made clothes for all of her granddaughters.
Lorraine is survived by her son, Blane Edward Windon, his wife Sandy, his three children: Allie, Kayla and Katie Windon; his four stepchildren: Lesa (Lee) Tyler, Carol (Josh) Kavalcsik, Charles "Buddy" (Tia) Derrick, and Taylor (Scott ) Ivey; his grandchildren: Peyton Tyler, 21, Wesley Tyler, 17, Matthew Kovalcsik, 17, Faith Kovalcsik, 6, Luke Kovalcsik, 4, Adriana Derrick, 8, and Chloe Ivey, 1. She is also survived by her daughter, Sue Matinkhah, two of her three sons; Nauder (Melissa Marquez) Matinkhah and Brandon (Sarah) Gale, her son, Justin (deceased) (Sarah) Matinkhah; her grandchildren: McKenzie Matinkhah, 8, Ruby Matinkhah, 2, Markie Matinkhah, 20, Madison Matinkhah, 13, Hadley Matinkhah, 8, and Kamden Matinkhah.
Also surviving are her two adopted children, Doreen Windon and Don Richard.
Along with her parents she was predeceases by her siblings, Marilyn Johnson and Harold Avery.
Honoring Lorraine's wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at W. L. Case & Company, 4480 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw. Entombment will follow at Oakwood Mausoleum. Friends may visit with the family from 12:00pm until the time of service.
