Lorraine Powers

Powers, Lorraine Saginaw, Michigan Lorraine Mary Powers (nee Rappa) of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away peacefully on February16, 2015 at her last residence, Heather Hills in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Born on December 8, 1919, she was the eldest child of Alfred C. Rappa and Alvina M. Rappa. She was preceded in death by her brother, Alfred C. Rappa Jr. and her daughter, Susan Mary (Powers) Keegstra. She is survived by her son-in-law, Don Keegstra; two grandsons, Bryan (Shannon) Couzens and Munch (Adriana) Keegstra; her three great-grandsons, Cole and Jake Couzens and James Keegstra Lopez and her nieces and nephews. Lorraine grew up in Saginaw, Michigan and attended Saginaw High School. She went on to work at Eaton alongside her father and brother. Upon retiring from Eaton, she worked for Nouvel Catholic Central High School. She was an active member in the American Business Women's Association Pine Tree Chapter of Saginaw and in St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church. She and her parents maintained a beautiful garden filled with peonies, irises, lilies and an old redbud. They loved to watch the countless birds that visited their feeders, while Lorraine ferried away pesky squirrels to other woodland areas. She looked forward to weekly luncheons with her friends in Saginaw and cherished visiting her family, especially during holidays at Elk Lake. Her grandsons have many fond memories of traveling with Lorraine to warm, sunny locales, as she did her best to "not quite" spoil them. The family would like to thank the staff at Heather Hills for their tireless service caring for Lorraine in her last years. Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015 at St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, 5380 State Street, Saginaw, MI. Fr. Richard Bokinskie will officiate. Burial will take place at a later date at St. Andrew Cemetery. Friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service. The family is being served by both Metcalf and Jonkhoff (Grand Rapids) and W.L. Case and Company (Saginaw) funeral services.
