The Lord has called Lorraine Valeria (Jankowski) Sian to her everlasting home where her husband and love of her life, Carl E. Sian, greeted her with open arms once again!
Lorraine passed away after a short illness surrounded by her family on Friday, September 2, 2016, at St. Mary's Hospital of Michigan. She was 85 years of age.
Lorraine Valeria (Jankowski) Sian was born May 22, 1931, to the late Charles A. and Lillian M. (Schrimpf) Jankowski in Boston, Massachusetts. In 1967 Lorraine graduated from Chelsea High School in Chelsea, MA. On July 31, 1976, she married the love of her life, Carl E. Sian, and together they shared nearly 40 years of marriage. Carl predeceased her on March 20, 2016. Lorraine was employed at Saginaw General Hospital as a cook and after retirement she went to work at McDonald's restaurant on Holland Ave. in Saginaw, MI. Lorraine was best known for her kind-heart and her love for everyone, especially her granddaughter Lisa and her family, who were her constants. Lorraine never missed sending family and friends holiday cards signed Love, Carl & Lorraine. Her favorite hobbies were crocheting & sewing and volunteering for events at the American Legion and VFW Posts. She would say "I do it for the Veterans", but most of all she loved her time spent with Family. Lorraine was very active in the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 22 at both the Local and State levels. She proudly served as Unit 22 American Legion Auxiliary President, Vice President, Chaplain, and she represented Unit 22 for the American Legion Girls State program. Lorraine was also a proud member of the VFW Auxiliary 1859 and VFW Auxiliary 1566 where she also proudly served as President and Chaplain. Lorraine was also a member of the 40&8 Cabane FEMMES 600. Lorraine and her late husband Carl graciously volunteered countless hours together with the American Legion & VFW Post committees and events, Child and Youth Post 22, Fish Fries at Post 22, funeral luncheons, VA Bingo, the American Legion Special Olympic Bowling, stuffing the stockings for the Children's Christmas parties and she also appeared as Mrs. Claus for a number of years at Post 22. Lorraine shared her love of horses with her daughters, Brenda Landress and Sally Joe Sian. They were involved in the 4-H program.
Lorraine is survived by her four children, Norma Schmandt, Robert (Maria) Sian, Kenneth (Nancy) Sian, and James Sian; nine grandchildren, Amy (Gene) Morrison, Lisa (Jeff) Slancik, Joshua (Virginia) Hernandez, Micaela Ontiveros, Olivia Sian, Bobby Sian, Hanna Sian, Kevin Inman, and Natalie Inman; a sister and three brothers, Mary (George), Charles (Joanie), Richard (Mary), and Paul (finance Susan Foley); a sister-in-law Barbara Jankowski; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great, great-grandchild; her Godchildren, Rosemary Frye and Neil Frye; and many nieces and nephews especially her niece Rose Golombisky and nephew Mike Sian whom she adored. She was predeceased by two daughters, Brenda Landress and Sally Sian; and three brothers, Ernie, Eddie and Jerry Jankowski. To some she was Lorraine but to us she was Mom, Grandma, Sister and Auntie Lorraine.and she will forever be in our hearts.
