Louis Alexander Vedrode, Jr. Merrill, Michigan Louis Alexander Vedrode, Jr. age 92, joined his beloved wife of 69 years, Ann, in Heaven on February 7, 2015. The son of the late Louis and Beatrice Vedrode was born on July 19, 1922 on the family farm in Merrill, Michigan. Besides his wife he was preceded in death by five brothers, Steve, Frank, Ernie, Joe and "Zeke". Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Ed Beckenbach, his sisters Rose Frollo, Patricia Kaiser (Stan), Pauline Howe and Julie McCormick, two grandchildren, Edwin Beckenbach and Elizabeth Leavy (Ben), two great-grandchildren, Isabelle and Nate, and numerous nieces and nephews, including Robert Clark and Jimmy Vedrode who gave their Uncle Lou much love and care. Lou served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He and Ann owned a restaurant in Merrill in the 1940s. He farmed, worked as a mechanic for Siler Motors and in his own shop with his brother-in-law George Mikusko, and eventually retired from General Motors. He pitched on the Merrill softball team in his youth and became an accomplished golfer. He enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers and giving the Tigers' manager a piece of his mind. He was a dear, sweet man who will be missed by all who knew him. Cremation has taken place. Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 12, 2015 at St. John XXIII Parish, Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 419 S. Midland St., Merrill, MI. Rev. Duane Wachowiak will officiate. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the funeral mass. A committal service will take place at 1:30 p.m. at St. Andrew Cemetery.
