Luel D. "Lou" Gerard

Luel D. "Lou" Gerard Roscommon, MI Formerly of Saginaw Passed away Friday September 28, 2018 at the age of 80 years. Luel was born July 20, 1938 the son of the late Kenneth R. and Dorothy L. (Smith) Gerard. Luel married to JoAnn LaFond on May 28, 1960 in Saginaw. She survives him. He retired from Malleable Iron following 33 years of service. He was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Higgins Lake. He enjoyed coaching little league and summer league baseball and football for Douglas MacArthur High School. Luel was an avid outdoorsman, his passions were fishing, hunting and bird watching. His greatest passion was his wife JoAnn, his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Surviving besides his wife JoAnn are three children; Mark (Katherine) Gerard, Michael (Francia) Gerard, and Michelle (TJ) Midcalf; eleven grandchildren; Sara Jo (Roddie) Helsel, Danielle Gerard, Megan (Josh) Hedrick, Ashley Gerard, Amelia Gerard, Michael Gerard Jr., Mitchell Turner, Beau Turner, Hunter Turner, Annabelle Midcalf, Audree Midcalf; three great-grandchildren; Bennett Luel, Landree Katherine, Cohen Marc; a brother; Gregory (Judy) Gerard; a sister-in-law; Sharon Murry; a brother-in-law; Ronald Kline. Luel was predeceased in death by a brother, Kenneth Gerard. Funeral service will take place 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Ascension Lutheran Church 8695 Gratiot Road, Saginaw. Rev. Julie Bailey will officiate with burial to follow at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends and family may visit with the family at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel 201 N. Miller Road, Saginaw from 2:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, and then at the church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
