Manuel "Gordo" Mireles Alonso
Loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend went home to be reunited with his family that went before him on September 7, 2021. Age 79 years.
The son of the late Hipolita Alonso and Manuel Mireles was born April 5, 1942 in Mexico. He married Josefa Delacruz on February 26, 1973; she survives him. Manuel was a very well known and well loved man. He was always willing to help out the less fortunate. He enjoyed working on cars and helping those who could not afford to buy or fix a car on their own. Manuel was a big jokester and loved playing pranks on others. He was a mentor and a teacher and was affectionately called "Pops" by all of the neighborhood kids. Manuel could make friends with anyone he met and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Surviving are his wife Josefa Mireles, six children: Martha (Arturo) Chacon, Lola Gonzalez, Manuel (Lisa) Mireles, Imelda (Jairo) Mireles, Irma (Sergio) Perez, Miguel (Maricella) Mireles; 22 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, a very special nephew Mauricio Manuel "Wicho" Buendia, three sisters: Rrora, Pola, and Consuelo, two brothers: Coco and Negro, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Manuel is predeceased by his parents, a son Ernesto, a grandson Vicente, and his best friends who are waiting for him in heaven, Lazaro and Matias.
Funeral service will be held at 1 pm on Monday, September 13, 2021, at W. L. Case & Company, 4480 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw. Arturo Chacon will officiate with burial to follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, committal by Rev. Fr. Frank Voris O.F.M. Cap. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral home on Saturday, September 11, 2021, from 4-8 pm and on Sunday, September 12, 2021, from 2-6 pm, as well as on Monday from 12 pm until the time of service.
