Marcelline Lee “Marcy” Schafer, 85, of Saginaw, MI, passed away Tuesday morning, March 9, 2021. Marcy was called to the Lord while at home surrounded by family; listening to her favorite song, “Amazing Grace.” In her final year of life, Marcy had moved up to a family home on Hardwood Lake; enjoying beautiful views, home cooked meals and constant visitors.
Marcy’s life was devoted to her family. She is survived by her children, Brad (Renee), Brian (Sandy), and Barry (Ariane); grandchildren; Kale (Madison), Rachel (Mark) Krueger, Lauren (Chris), Devin (Hunter), Hannah, Sam, Lucas, Davi, Heba (Mohamed), Kelli (Brian) Goulet, Tony Kingry, Ryan Kingry; great-grandchildren: Nazlie, Grace, Abigail, and Olivia; siblings: George Baumann Jr. and Patricia Littlejohn; and a Goddaughter, Sue Lewis.
She was preceded by her parents, George and Mabelle Baumann, sister-in-law, Yvonne Baumann; brother-in-law, Robert Littlejohn; nephews, Kim Littlejohn and Brent Baumann; and longtime friend, Bettie Lyle.
Marcy was born in Saginaw, MI on August 8, 1935. She graduated from Saginaw High School. She worked retail for several years while raising her three boys, but her most important work was done as a homemaker and grandmother to her family. For many years she would see her grandkids off to school in the morning offering her sage advice, such as “Get smart!” and “Don’t take any wooden nickels!” If that wasn’t enough, she’d be there to receive them at home after school to watch soap operas, and listen to classic country until their parents got home.
Marcy was a devoted member of her church, kind and welcoming to most - unless they were unfortunate enough to sit in her pew. Marcy was a lover of dogs, whether by choice or because her family kept bringing them home, the love of dogs was a perfect complement to her “No Bullshit” personality. Several who knew her were given carefully selected nicknames, many from Freeland High School knew that receiving such a moniker from “Master Spoon,” was a high honor.
The family would like to thank Compassus Hospice of West Branch for the wonderful care given to Marcy for nearly a year. She complemented each and everyone of her care caregivers for their thoughtfulness, compassion, and care.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00pm Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road. Pastor Julie Bailey will officiate. Friends are welcome to visit with the family on Saturday from 10:00am until the time of the service at 1:00 p.m. Burial will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 15, 2021, at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, consider making a donation to Ascension Lutheran Church (VanWormer Road, Saginaw) or New Hope Pet Rescue in Marcy’s name.
“We love you more.”
