Margaret A. "Peggy" Landeryou
Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved mother and grandmother passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, June 2, 2021, at her home, with her family at her side; at the age of 83 years.
The daughter of the late Lawrence Frederick and Margaret Ellen (Shackleford) Ross, Peggy was born on October 23, 1937 in Saginaw, Michigan. She graduated from Arthur Hill High School. Peggy married John L. Landeryou on December 22, 1973; he preceded her in death on January 25, 2015. They made a very interesting couple as both loved knowledge and debate.
When one thinks of Peggy, so very many unconventional and varied interests come to mind. Such as world religion, civil rights, reading books and writing poetry. Peggy could often be found blaring Gregorian chants whilst making potato salad or reciting rousing poetry.
Peggy was, most recently, a member of Michigan Avenue Baptist church, where she taught Sunday school class to those with special needs, all of whom she gave a ride to and from church and cared a great deal for.
Peggy graduated Summa Cum Laude from Saginaw Valley State University with a Bachelor's in Arts Degree and Teaching Degree. She taught at Saginaw Public Schools for many years. Peggy believed in the good of Saginaw and was even Saginawian of the Year. Once, Peggy was honored by the Saginaw Historical Museum when allowed to display her extensive ceramic pig collection at the museum!
Peggy seemed always to have a gaggle of children around her, only six of which were hers. She was always doing a favor for somebody. She loved singing songs and reading stories with children. Also, she gave elaborate dolls as gifts, her generosity knew no bounds.
Peggy was a member of countless prayer groups, movie appreciation groups, books clubs, study groups, and even a vegan group (she was not vegan). Some of which include the Serendipity Social Group, Red Hats Society, Saginaw Art Museum, Theodore Ruthke House, and the Culture Vulture movie group at Saginaw Valley State University. A lovely night out would mostly likely have been spent at the Saginaw Pit and Balcony.
Surviving are one son and five daughters: James (Linda) Nalewick, Bethany Hazard, Amy Bedford, Julie Nalewick, Kasia Nalewick, Johanna Landeryou-Heeren (Greg Heeren); six grandchildren: Norman (Bethany) Wilson, Aleah (John) Titus, Ava Heeren, Callah Heeren, Eli Heeren, Isaac Heeren. Also surviving is her brother: Larry (Juliane) Ross; many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Margaret was predeceased by a granddaughter: Jennifer Cherry; three sisters: Mary Cousino, Dorothy Stevens, and Betsy Lyon.
Honoring Margaret's wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 6, 2021, at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw. Rev. Carol McCleary will officiate. Friends may visit from 12:00 p.m. Sunday until the time of service at the funeral chapel. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Saginaw Art Museum or Saginaw Historical Society.
