Margaret Jean Strouse Saginaw, Michigan Passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016, at Caretel Inns of the Tri-Cities Assisted Living. Age 91 years. The daughter of the late James Millard and Marguerite (Crawford) Hopkins was born July 15, 1924 in Riverdale, Michigan. She married James W. Strouse, November 2, 1944. He passed away February 28, 2013. Jean was a graduate of Central Michigan University with a Bachelor's degree in Education. She taught in the Bay City and Saginaw Public Schools as well as area parochial schools. She was active with the Merry Wives, the B.P.W. and the Daughters of the Nile Jean was a longtime, active member of State Street United Methodist Church and sang in the choir. She loved to travel, appreciated good music, played the piano and served on the Saginaw Symphony Women's Committee. Surviving are her children, Ruth Andrus, Carol (David) Groat, Jan (Rick) Sallmen, David (Marcelo Goncalves) Strouse; seven grandchildren, Jodi (Robert) Rivet, Wendy (David) Jezewski, Mindy Groat, Susan Traweek, Kenneth (Rachel) Groat, Shannon (Jim) Fitzpatrick, Matthew (Natasha) Holvey; fifteen great grandchildren. A brother, Paul Hopkins, has predeceased her. The funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the W. L. Case and Co. Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Rev. Monique Turner will officiate with burial in Roselawn Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at the Chapel from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral service.
