Maria Elena went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, November 7, 2020. Elena was born on August 3, 1942 in San Benito, Texas.
Elena had a heart for children as a foster parent and was very active in the Saginaw School System which lead to her long career as a teacher’s aide. It was rare to see her without a child or two in tow. Elena was a social butterfly, as no person she met was a stranger. It was not unusual for her to perform random acts of kindness and her home was open to anyone in need.
Elena loved going to church and listening to worship music. She had a passion for cooking and was McGyver at fixing anything broken or putting something together. Elena also enjoyed going to the Bingo, crocheting, and dancing. She was the “Cumbia Queen” of the family. She was her happiest when gathered together with all her children and grandchildren, family was so important to her. She will be dearly missed and remembered by all who knew her. Elena will remain forever in the hearts of her children.
Elena leaves behind six beloved children, Irene (Dana) Kilts of Freeland, Yolanda Zamora of Houston, TX, Tito Zamora, Guillermo (Aurelia) Zamora, Timoteo (Gina) Zamora, and Rene Lawrence all of Saginaw; sisters Mary Lou Ortega, Janie (Ken) Jackson; brother, Jesus (Brenda) Rodriguez; many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by the love of her life Tito M. Zamora as well as her mother Maria De La Paz Rodriguez and one sister Minerva Villanueva.
A memorial service will take place next spring or summer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that in the spirit of Elena’s kind heart that a random act of kindness be provided to a friend or stranger.
