Thompson, Marion E. Saginaw, Michigan Passed away Friday, December 5, 2014, at Hoyt Nursing Home, at the age of 97 years. Marion Ellen Garner was born November 24, 1917, in Denmark Township, Tuscola County, Michigan, the daughter of the late Arthur and Clara (Frahm) Garner, moving with her family to Saginaw in 1919. She married Bernard G. Thompson on December 5, 1936; he predeceased her August 9, 2007. She had been a long time member of Jefferson Avenue United Methodist Church, where she was baptized in 1918, and where she and her husband Bernie had been very involved in church activities. She was currently a member of Kochville United Methodist Church. She retired from J. C. Penny after 17 years of service. Marion was a volunteer at Community Hospital. She also enjoyed making stuffed animals, doing ceramics, and knitting hats, most of which she gave to family and donated to area hospitals, including St. Luke's Hospital and the Aleda E. Lutz VA Medical Center. She was very proud of her flower and vegetable garden. Surviving are three sons, one daughter, and their spouses, Bernard A. and Mary Jean Thompson, Suttons Bay, Michigan; Robert G. and Janice Thompson, Frankenmuth, Michigan; James B. Thompson and wife Mary Ann Brandt, Okemos; Judith "Judy" and Gary Thorne, Sierra Vista, Arizona; a daughter-in-law, Carla Thompson, Grand Rapids; eight grandchildren, Susan (Kevin) Dempsey, Vic (Rhonda) Thompson, Kris Thompson, Kerri Hartwell, Michael Thompson, Lorie (Mike) Bergelin, Kimberly (Mike) Duff, and Cindy (Adam) Berns; nine great-grandchildren, Madison, Brad, Zachary, Kaylyn, Katy, Jason, Taylor, Sarah, and Soren; several nieces, nephews and their families. Besides her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her son, Larry Thompson in 2009, and by two brothers and one sister, William, Earl and Betty Garner. Cremation has taken place. Private committal services will take place later in Roselawn Memorial Gardens.
