Martha A. Painter
Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved mother, grandmother and sister passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at King Nursing Home; at the age of 93 years.
The daughter of the late Josef and Anna (Jedrus) Czarnecki, Martha was born on February 22, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois. She married John L. Painter Sr. on May 21, 1951 in Saginaw, Michigan; he preceded her in death on December 17, 2005. Martha worked for 27 years of loyal and dedicated service at General Motors, Casting Division, Grey Iron until retiring in 1975. She played an active role in the UAW 668, Martha stood up for a safe work environment and women’s right. She enjoyed bowling, going to the casino to play the slot machines, and perch fishing with her husband. Above all, Martha cherished the time spent with her family.
Surviving are her four daughters and their spouses: Bonnie and Ron Whitney, Tawas; Debbie Dark, Beaverton; Cyndi Schurr, Grand Rapids; Stacey and Tim Tyler, Wayland; two stepchildren: Ken (Dee) Painter, Owosso; Jackie (Rick) Knoffe, Cadillac; one daughter-in-law: Sheila Painter, St. Charles; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren, one sister: Helen Zillinger. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Besides her husband and parents; Martha was preceded in death by two sons: John Painter Jr., Sam Painter; and one step-daughter: Rebecca Nicole.
The family of Martha would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the King Nursing Home and Compassus Hospice for their kind and compassionate care.
A private funeral service will take place at W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Road, Saginaw. Rev. Fr. Steve Gavit will officiate with burial to follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Compassus Hospice.
