Martha ("Naomi") Thompson Cook Saginaw, Michigan Passed away on Saturday, March 10, 2018, at Covenant Hospital after a brief illness. She would have been 100-years-old on her birthday at the end of May. Naomi was the only child of the late Ralph and Fredonia Thompson. She was born in St. Mary, Ohio, but moved to Saginaw with her parents and attended Saginaw schools, graduating from Arthur Hill High School in 1936. She was a graduate of Central Michigan Normal School, the predecessor to Central Michigan University. Naomi utilized her teaching degree for 40 years to enrich the minds and lives of the elementary school children she loved. Her career in the Saginaw Public Schools was highlighted by her time teaching second grade at Handley School and by her service to the school district as a traveling music teacher. Naomi married Robert R. Cook in Connecticut, in November of 1943, when Bob was a newly commissioned Ensign in the Navy. Naomi returned to Saginaw when Bob shipped out to the Pacific Theater of WWII. After returning from the war, Bob attended the University of Michigan Law School and began his career at the Cook & Cook law firm, ending his career 50+ years later at Shinners & Cook, PC in Kochville Township. Naomi and Bob were beloved by the large circle of friends they had made over many decades in both Saginaw and at their cottage on Glen Lake. The two were well-known active members of the Saginaw Club, Saginaw Country Club, and Germania Town & Country Club. Naomi was well regarded by countless people who knew and appreciated her sense of humor, exceptionally sharp wit, and her zest for life. She was truly an unforgettable lady who shall be missed by those who loved her and felt her love in return. Naomi was preceded in death by her husband Bob in 2009, and by her brother-in-law Webster Cook and his wife Betty. She and Bob are survived by Web and Bettys three children: Betty Cook-Stark, Barbara Aron, and Gary Cook. Those who knew her these last 18 years, also came to know Mr. Lynden B. Avery, who was first Bobs, and then for the last 9 years Naomis, especially devoted caretaker and friend.
