Beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on September 27, 2019 at Covenant Healthcare. He was 74 years old. MJ was born on January 28, 1945 in Saginaw, MI, to the late Martin and Zilda (Brenner) Bauer. He graduated from Hemlock High School in 1963. He then went on to play baseball and football at Alma College, where he graduated in 1967. From there he attended Central Michigan and received his MBA in 1969. MJ proudly served in the United States Army from 1969-1971 and was stationed in Germany. He married Tracy Wendzik on February 17, 1979 at Birch Run United Methodist Church. MJ worked as a milkman for Superior Dairy for 38 years, retiring in April of 2012. Besides working he was involved in farming his entire life. He enjoyed tinkering in his barn, snowmobiling, watching sports and going to tractor pulls. MJ was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hemlock and sang in the choir for many years.
Along with his wife, he is survived by a son, Marty (Brooke) Bauer and his son Noah; a daughter, Katie (Nick) Birchmeier and her two sons, Adam and Ryan; a sister, Rhoda (Fred) Nehmer; a sister-in-law, Holly Wendzik; two nieces, Kim (Mike) Walker, her daughter Erika, and Kelly (Dave) Donahue, her daughter, Michaela and son, Riley; a nephew, Kris (Sue) Nehmer, his daughters Carmen and Samantha. He is predeceased by his parents-in-law, Edward and Shirley Wendzik.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, October 3, 2019, at St. Peter Lutheran Church, 2461 N Raucholz Rd. Hemlock. Rev. Dr. William L. Morris will officiate. Friends may visit with the family from 2-8 PM on Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd. Saginaw as well as at the church on Thursday from 10 AM until the time of service. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider St. Peter Lutheran Church or Valley Lutheran High School.
