Harms, Marvin George of Hemlock, Michigan
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend passed away peacefully on Tuesday evening, October 2, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his family at the age of 73 years. He was born January 11, 1945, in Saginaw to the late Louis Carl and Leota Mae (Wilkins) Harms. He was a proud 1963 graduate of Hemlock High School where he was an outstanding football player. Following graduation, Marvin enlisted in the United States Navy, serving honorably for six years. During that time he married Ruth Ann Noykos; she preceded him in death on February 28, 1974. He later married Thana Gale Thiede on May 2, 1980; she survives him. Marvin was employed with the Dow Chemical Company, retiring as a crane operator with 33 years of service. He was a member of St. Mark Lutheran Church. Marvin was also a member of VFW Post #7302 and American Legion Post #439. He took great pride in his ownership of his black 1997 Dyna Glide Harley Davidson. Marvin enjoyed golfing, especially on his league and creating the Wilkins Cold Duck Classic Golf Outing. He was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed watching both the Detroit Tigers and attending any of his children or grandchildrens sporting events. He will forever be remembered for his gentle soul, his wisdom and for the kindness he passed on to everyone.
Surviving are his wife of 38 years, Thana Gale Harms of Hemlock; a step-daughter, Rachel A. (Brian) Rotary of Auburn; a step-son, Heath (Heidi) Marietta of St. Charles; five grandchildren: Rachel B. Rotary, Meghann Rotary, Hannah Marietta, Hailey Marietta, Helena Marietta; two sisters, Connie Mendyk of Harbor Springs and Janet (Thomas) Kennelly of Saginaw. Also surviving are many loved nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members and friends.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his former wife, Ruth Ann (Noykos) Harms and their infant son, Lincoln.
Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 8, 2018 at St. Mark Lutheran Church, 2565 N. Miller Rd., Saginaw. Pastor Bob Allmann will officiate. Military honors will be conducted under the auspices of VFW Post #7302, the United States Navy and the Patriot Guard.
Private committal will take place later. Marvins family will receive friends at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Rd., on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at the church on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
