Mary Catherine (Welch) Daugherty of Swan Creek Township

Beloved, wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday, July 1, 2021, at Ascension St. Mary’s Hospital. She was 70 years old. Mary Catherine Welch was born on November 2, 1950, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Louis James and Catherine (Bulga) Welch. She was a proud 1968 graduate of SS. Peter & Paul High School. Following graduation, Mary attended Michigan State University wanting to major in marine biology. She married Kevin V. Daugherty on September 13, 1991, in Niagara Falls, New York; he survives her. Mary worked at St. Mary’s Hospital as a supply coordinator, retiring after 40 years of loyal and dedicated service. She was a longtime and faithful member of SS. Peter & Paul Catholic Church. Mary enjoyed lodging and spending time with her family and friends at the Rock River Resort on Lake Superior. She was an avid reader and often enjoyed bowling and playing softball with “the girls”. Mary will forever be remembered for her excellent luck in playing Euchre, her loving and fun free spirit, and her excellent sense of humor.

Surviving are her husband of 31 years, Kevin V. Daugherty of Swan Creek Township; son, Matt (Lupe) Warsin of St. Charles; five grandchildren: Javier Guevarra, Elena Neyman, Mariza Neyman and her boyfriend, Brandon Murray, Matt Warsin Jr and his girlfriend, Payton Riley, and Nicholas Louis Vance Warsin; two great-grandchildren: Antonio and Isaiah.

She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved yellow lab, Brutus.

A Funeral Service will take place at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 6, 2021, at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road. Honoring Mary’s wishes cremation will follow the service. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the City Rescue Mission of Saginaw.
