Mary E. Mahan of Saginaw, Michigan

Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 28, 2021, at Bickford Assisted Living. She was 96 years old. Mary Ellen Nestell was born on November 27, 1924, in Saginaw, Michigan, to the late Berton R. and Mary Ellen (Metiva) Nestell. She met the love of her life, Grant Mahan, while ice skating at Hoyt Park. They fell in love and were united in marriage on September 10, 1943, in Saginaw; he preceded her in death on March 4, 1995. At 16 years old, Mary, and her father became members of a book club. She remained an avid and passionate reader her entire life, especially mystery novels. Mary also enjoyed playing cards and taking frequent trips to the casino. Throughout her life, Mary, took great pleasure in her appearance, always dressing classy, fashionable, and elegant. She will forever be remembered for her kind and caring heart and for the generosity she shared with her family.

Surviving are a son, Grant B. (Jennifer) Mahan of Zilwaukee; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: Brent Mahan and his daughter, Charley; Eric (Kari) Mahan and their daughter, Brookelyn; and Phil Mahan; a sister, Karen Munson of Birch Run. Also surviving are many loving nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Mahan on July 10, 2017; brother, Dick (Martha) Nestell; sister, Amber (Don) Burkes; brother-in-law, Andy Munson.

A private service will take place on Thursday, March 4, 2021, at the W. L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel with burial following at Roselawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to a charity of the donor’s choice.
