Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister passed away on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the age of 73 years. The daughter of the late Joseph and Agnes (Summerfeld) Andrews was born on February 13, 1944 in Saginaw. She married Lawrence Slominski on May 25, 1963; he survives her. Mary Ellen graduated from Holy Rosary High School, the class of 1962. She retired from Carrollton Public Schools to watch her loving grandchildren. She taught art class at St. Josaphat School. Mary Ellen was a member of St. John Paul II Parish, formerly St. Josaphat Catholic Church. She was active in boy and girl scouts, the PTA, and helped organize the reading program at Carrollton Schools. She was an avid school volunteer at Carrollton and Reese schools, enjoyed helping and working with children, loved to read, knit, and if anyone knew her, they knew she loved owls. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her loving family. Surviving besides her husband of 54 years, Lawrence, are their children: Lori (Mark) Menapace, Lynn (John) Porath, Jeffrey (Lisa) Slominski, seven grandchildren: Brandon (fianc Ashleigh) Menapace and Brittany Menapace, Daniel (fianc Kelsey) and Bradley (Ariel) Porath, Mason, Layne, and Gage Slominski, her sisters: Patricia Hoerauf, Kathryn Nowicki, her brother-in-law Thomas (Sally) Slominski, sisters-in-law: Mary Lee (Keith) Werda, Carol Cummings and many special nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her sister Betty (Ferris) Melzo, brothers: Robert (Patricia) Andrews, Joseph (Marceline) Andrews, brothers-in-law: Donn Hoerauf and Conrad Nowicki. Funeral liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 15, 2018 at the St. John Paul II Parish, St. Josaphat Church, 469 Shattuck Rd. Family and friends may visit with the family at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. on Sunday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. where a vigil will take place at 7:00 p.m. Family and friends may also visit with the family on Monday at church from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the funeral liturgy.
