Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, January 6, 2019. She was 89 years old. Mary Ellen Fischer was born on June 19, 1929 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Ernest and Mabel (Frost) Fischer. She was a proud 1947 graduate of Arthur Hill High School. Mary Ellen married Dale E. Wenzel on June 19, 1948 in Saginaw at First Presbyterian Church; he survives her. They lived in Saginaw until 1990, when she and Dale moved to Tawas City in Arenac County. She was a former member of First Presbyterian Church and a charter member of the East Tawas Presbyterian Church. Mary Ellen was also a senior regent member of the Women of the Moose Lodge #82 Saginaw Chapter 420. She enjoyed working on ceramics and decorating for the holidays. Mary Ellen also loved to cook and bake, often volunteering to do so for church events and for vacation bible school. Surviving are her husband of 70 years, Dale E. Wenzel of Tawas City; two sons, Keith D. Wenzel of Tawas City and James L. Wenzel and his spouse Sylvia Nelson of Prince William County, VA; two granddaughters, Melissa Wenzel of Minnesota and Laura Wenzel of Virginia; a sister, Charlotte Dvorak of Merrill; and six of Dales living brothers. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Dennis Wenzel.
A funeral service will take place at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, January 11, 2019 at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Miller Road. Pastor Julie Bailey will officiate. Private burial will follow in Roselawn Memorials Gardens. Friends are welcome to visit with the family at the funeral chapel on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 8:30 a.m. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Women of the Moose Lodge #82 Saginaw Chapter 420.
