Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away on Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at the age of 90 years. The daughter of the late James and Emma (Ness) Fuhrman was born on October 29, 1926 in York, PA. She graduated from the University of Cincinnati and later obtained a masters degree in education from Saginaw Valley State University . She met Robert G. Dyer while attending the University of Cincinnati and they married on April 7, 1951; he predeceased her on August 18, 2013. Mary retired from the Saginaw Public School District after 20 years of service where she taught music and eventually directed the Arthur Hills choir, and a competing Jazz Choir. Robert and Mary enjoyed music, and they performed with the Eddy Band on Ojibway Island during the summer concerts as well as sing-a-longs in the Tap Room at Zehnders of Frankenmuth. She was a member of First Congregational Church where she also sang in the choir. She was also a member of the YMCA, and Saginaw Choral Society. Mary played the piano for Faith Lutheran Church and Our Savior Lutheran Church where she also directed the choir. Mary also played piano for some musical productions at Pit and Balcony. Mary was an avid tennis fan and enjoyed playing tennis with her friends. Surviving are her children: Rebecca Boyd, James (Lita) Dyer, grandchildren; Ian Boyd and Emilyann (Mikael) Rubio, great-grandson Sebastian, her sister Sara Hostetter, sister-in-law Kay Dyer, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother William Fuhrman, her brother-in-law C. James Dyer and her sister-in-law Barbara and her husband Robert Thompson. Memorial service will take place at 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at the W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. Friends may visit with the family at the funeral chapel on Tuesday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service.
