Beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 30, 2020 at Hoyt Nursing & Rehab Centre, with her family at her side, at the age of 82 years.
The daughter of the late George F. and Agatha A. (Cockerill) Taylor, Mary was born on October 29, 1937 in Croswell, Michigan. She graduated from St. Joseph’s High School with the class of 1956; Mary then continued her education at Wm. Rainey Harper College where she earned her Registered Nurses Degree. Mary married Kevin Rooney Sr. on April 12, 1958 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Carrollton, Michigan. They shared 25 wonderful years together. Kevin preceded Mary in death on November 25, 1983 in Arlington Heights, Illinois. Mary was a nurse for many years at Covenant HealthCare until retiring in 2001. She was a member of the Third Order of Franciscan. She enjoyed arts, crafts and reading. Above all, Mary cherished the time spent with her family.
Surviving are four sons, two daughters and their spouses: Kevin Rooney Jr. and Debbie Dugger, Pleasantville, California; Eileen Rooney, Kenosha, Wisconsin; Brian and Irene Rooney, Naperville, Illinois; Mark and Lisa Rooney, Burbank, California; Mary “Beth” and Charles Kane, Kenosha, Wisconsin; Timothy and Angelique Rooney, Denver, Colorado; one daughter-in-law: Debbie Rooney, Belvidere, Illinois; seven grandchildren: Sean, Michael, Aleah, Aiden, Kailyn, Payton, Olivia; four great-grandchildren: Addison, Myles, Rylee, Natalie; one sister and three brothers: Donna (George) Gilbert; Bob (Helen) Taylor; Tom (Denise) Taylor; Dale (Jackie) Taylor. Also surviving are many nieces, nephews and extended family members. Besides her parents; Mary was preceded in death by her son: Patrick Rooney; one sister; three brothers; and one special friend: Bob Petrice.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Hoyt Nursing & Rehab and Covenant VNA for their compassionate and gentle care of Mary.
Honoring Mary’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Memorial Liturgy will be announced at a later date at St. James Catholic Church, 820 N. Arlington Heights Road, Arlington Heights, Illinois 60004. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Cemetery, 1185 W. Algonquin Road, Palatine, Illinois 60067; where Mary will be laid to rest by her husband, Kevin. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted with W. L. Case and Company Funeral Chapel. In lieu of flowers, those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to Hoyt Nursing & Rehab Centre or Covenant VNA.
