Mary V. “Val” Murray of Saginaw, Michigan
Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, tia, and friend passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, November 3, 2024, at MyMichigan Medical Center Saginaw. She was 74 years old. Mary Velia Alaniz was born on May 19, 1950, in Alma, Michigan, to the late Rosendo Alaniz and Eva Segovia. She was a proud 1968 graduate of Shepherd High School. Val met the love of her life, Rolland Murray, while in attendance at a dance. They dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on March 7, 1969; he survives her. The role of her lifetime was to be a loving and devoted stay at home wife, mother, and tia. Val was a longtime and faithful member of Holy Family Catholic Church, where she volunteered her time as eucharistic minister and used her talent to sing in the choir. An avid crafter, she was a gifted and talented seamstress. She was also an effective communicator and loved to have conversations with family and friends. Val had an eclectic taste with music and could sing anything from church music to Prince. She showed her love by cooking, often feeding everyone from family, her children’s friends, and neighbors. Val will forever be remembered for her kind and loving spirit, for welcoming everyone regardless of their station in life, for her generosity to all she loved, and for truly living an amazing life filled with many beautiful memories and stories.
Surviving are her husband of 55 years, Rolland Murray of Saginaw; three children: Rosa (John) Spannagel of Linden; Ruth (Matthew) West of Fairfax, VA; Rolland Murray II of Holly; two stepchildren: Sarina Cuevas of Jacksonville, FL; Nicolas Cuevas of Saginaw; grandchildren: Rolland (Kailey) Murray III; Alexandra Premo; Riley Murray; Benjamin West; Katherine West; Matthew Spannagel; Ricky Cuevas; Jazmine Johnson; Torrance Cox; Tia Cox; Walter Cox; Torry Sessoms; Nick Garcia; Regina Garcia, Ayva Cuevas; seven brothers and three sisters: Rey Alaniz; Gilberto Alaniz; Rosendo (Rosa) Alaniz Jr.; Rueben (Anna) Alaniz; Rene (Kim) Alaniz; Rosalinda Alaniz; Miguel (Jessica) Garcia; Gabriel (Jessica) Martinez; Debra (Manuel) Medina.
