Mary (Triantafillou, Kennedy) App

Mary (Triantafillou, Kennedy) App died Friday January 2, 2015 at Edgewood Assisted Living Center. She was 76. Mary was born on May 31, 1938 to the late Efthemios and Efrosine Triantafillou in Saginaw and spent most of her life in the greater Saginaw area. She was a long standing member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Saginaw and an active member of the Philoptochos Society. Mary was a gifted teacher, devoted wife, daughter, sister, mother and friend to many. A talented seamstress and piano player, she was also an incredible cook. Her love of books and reading was constant and continuous. Her effervescent smile and laughter was infectious throughout her life. Upon graduating from Michigan State University in 1960. Mary began a long career teaching in the Saginaw school system. She ended her tenure as a mentor, guiding young teachers who were beginning their careers. In retirement, Mary was happiest at her house on Saginaw Bay reading books to her grandchildren and watching them play in the sand. Mary is survived by her children, Andrew (Debra) Kennedy, Robert (Mary) Kennedy, Glen (Roxanne) Kennedy, Katherine (David) App Palmer; Cindy (Robert) App Roeloffzen, and Rob App; her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her brothers, Gus (Martha) Triantafillou and George (Jean Farrington) Triantafillou; and several nieces and nephews. She is proceeded in death by her husband Robert App. Funeral service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 7, 2015, at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 4970 Mackinaw Rd. Rev. Fr. Timothy Cook will officiate with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Tuesday at the W. L. Case Chapel, 4480 Mackinaw Rd. from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. A Trisagion service will be held at the Chapel on Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. Those wishing to make an expression of sympathy may consider St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church.
